Yesterday we were invited to the opening of Louis Vuitton's pop-up shop to marvel over the latest Kusama creations, all dotted as expected.
The opening was a very well orchestrated event including a talk by Fumio Nanjo (from Mori Art Museum, Japan) at Sotheby's. Fumio has worked very closely with Kusama over the years and it was very refreshing to see how her mental well-being was not glossed over but addressed with the necessary sensitiveness and respect. The exhibition is actually a celebration of an obsession and to be frank these sort of things do not happen a lot so a very approving nod to Louis Vuitton for doing so.
After all was said and done there always remains this one -reoccuring- question. Amy Winehouse allegedly said that she wrote her best songs when she was at her worst.
What is the correlation between mental well-being and exceptional art?
